This project is about 3 folk games of Vietnam: Bau Cua, Lo To and Ca Ngua. All three types are associated with Vietnamese traditional Tet as they are gambling games and entail fortune. These games gradually become a traditional part of Vietnamese Tet. Still, these games are gamblings, and so they are criticized by society. Since then, the "gambling ghost" has always been associated with these types of games. The animals drawn are based on Dong Ho paintings - cultural paintings hung during Tet for fortune in the new year. Serif font is used in the project - the ghost money’s font - to create a formal and superstitious impression. Furthermore, the outlines on the animals have the texture as Dong Ho paintings. The artwork is printed on poonah paper with risograph ink - the same materials as Dong Ho paintings and ghost money
This project will hope to change societal attitudes on these games. They are not at all bad, nor evils, but precious traditions which need preservation.
